Introduction

Selected pieces will help inspire people to donate their time in support of great causes. The Timeraiser supports emerging and mid-career artists like few other community events do: artists are paid fair market value for their work instead of being asked to donate their creativity. The art is then auctioned off at the Timeraiser to raise volunteer hours for the community.

How the Call Works

The Timeraiser pays fair market value up to $1000 (including framing). You set the price of the work. Timeraiser's volunteer art jury will then select the pieces that will be purchased for the Timeraiser. Artwork will be displayed in the offices of corporate partners and in community spaces for the 12 months while participants complete their pledge. There are no submission fees associated with our calls.

Modifying Our Art Acquisition Strategy

We have revised the process for how Timeraiser acquires artwork for each of our Timeraiser cities. We have heard the feedback from artists, volunteers and our partners about our approach and support of artists and our goal is to better support local emerging Canadian talent and increase the number of artists we support across Canada.

The current Call to Artists and Art Selection process is time consuming and resource intensive. This document outlines the "old way" of running our calls, resulting in hours of staff and volunteer time.

The Pros and Cons of maintaining our existing art acquisition model are:
 PROS
  • Consistent acquisition strategy via online submissions and jury selection
  • Framework has purchased a small quantity of art from art-programs such as Delisle Youth Services
  • Credibility amongst art community continues to grow
CONS
  • Artist valuation is getting harder to gauge from city to city (e.g. different juries)
  • Extremely time intensive with a staggered call to artists between different dates for each Timeraiser city
  • We are only reaching a small percentage of emerging artists

In our new model:
40% of art selected will be through our traditional call to artists
25% of art selected by staff/volunteers directly from artists (as we did in year 1)
25% of art sourced through strategic partnerships (i.e Business for the Arts)
10% of art sourced through non-profit partners (such as Delisle Youth Services)
